We all had practised how to remember the names of all the sub-types by remembering the common names of sub-types of TENSES .
Now, moving on ;
Today , we are going to dive into each TENSE and its sub-types separately so that we can understand their sentence structure .
But, very importantly before we continue our lesson with each
So, first topic which we will cover today along with the TENSES is Sentence .

Since we are here studying very basic construction of sentences to study TENSES and its sub-types, we need to add one more thing to the above definition and it is Object so as to make it more easier for all of you to understand .
Now, a SENTENCE = SUBJECT + VERB + OBJECT
In short, we can call it,
SENTENCE = S + V + O or just SVO .
Remember, our focus here is to study TENSES and its sub-types .
Verb is if two types which we will be suing here (2 forms of verbs are considered only for understanding the TENSES. Here, Types of Verb is not covered up).
Two types of Verb are considered here .
Main Verb (M.V.)
Helping Verb (H.V.)
Main Verb (MV) is the verb of respective sub-type of TENSE .
Helping Verb (HV) is the verb form used to represent the action in the given sentence .
So, students you need to remember this little things in our way to Study of TENSES .
SENTENCE = S + V + O
Now,
SENTENCE = S + MV + HV + O (Remember this expanded version) .
Let's practise it 3 times and repeat with me .
Sentence = S + MV + HV + O
Sentence = S + MV + HV + O
Sentence = S + MV + HV + O
Now, we will study about the 3 major types of Sentences.
(Here, we are not covering "Types of Sentences", here we are covering only the type of sentences which is required for studying TENSES) .
So, three "Types of Sentences" which we will cover are ;
Affirmative Sentences
Negative Sentences
Interrogative Sentences
If we pay very close attention and understood the formation of these sentences , then it will be very easy for us to make sentence in any type or sub-type of TENSES .
Types of Sentences (only for studying TENSES)
Affirmative Sentences : An affirmative sentence is a positive sentence assertive a positive meaning .
Affirmative Sentences are also called as Assertive Sentences . Both are the same only as affirm and assert exert the similar meaning .
Negative Sentence : A negative sentence is the one which provides a negative meaning by using words like not, never, nothing, etc. .
Interrogative Sentences : An interrogative sentence is the in which question is being asked .
Interrogative Sentences are again of two types depending upon the type of question being asked .
Verbal Interrogative Sentences
WH - Type Interrogative Sentences
Verbal Interrogative Sentences : A verbal interrogative sentence is the one in which a helping Verb (HV) is used to form this question . This type of question requires a very short answer and mostly in Yes or No .
WH - Type Interrogative Sentences : A WH - type interrogative sentence is the one which is formed using Wh-type words and these interrogative sentences are often required an elaborate or detailed answers.
WH - Type words : What, When, Where, Who, Why, Which, How .
First, let's look at the affirmative sentence construction .
It's very similar what we studied earlier .
Affirmative Sentences :
Subject + Helping Verb + Main Verb + Object
S + HV + MV + O
Now, let's look at the negative sentence construction.
Here, we will add a negative word like NOT just after H.V. in the above affirmative sentence .
So, the construction will be like ,
Negative Sentences :
Subject + Helping Verb + NOT + Main Verb + Object
(S + HV + NOT + MV + O)
You are now very clear about the construction of affirmative and negative sentences .
Now, let's understand interrogative sentence construction.
Interrogative Sentences :
Verbal Interrogative Sentences :
Helping Verb (HV) + Subject + Main Verb (MV) + Object
(HV + S + MV + O)
Wh- Type Interrogative Sentences :
Wh- Type Word + Helping Verb (HV) + Subject + Main Verb (MV) + Object
(Wh-Type Word + HV + S + MV + O)
Bonus : What are verbal Interrogative negative sentences and Wh- type interrogative nagative sentences ?
These two sentences are nothing but adding negative word like NOT at the right place in verbal interrogative sentences and wh-type interrogative sentences.
So, the construction sentences be like :
I) Verbal Interrogative Negative Sentences :
Helping Verb (HV) + Subject + NOT + Main Verb (MV) + Object
(HV + S + NOT + MV + O)
II) Wh-Type Interrogative Negative Sentences :
Wh- Type Word + Helping Verb (HV) + Subject + NOT + Main Verb (MV) + Object
(Wh-Type Word + HV + S + NOT + MV + O)
